June 2021 Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians, students and community members,
The opening of the 2021-22 school year will be exciting, as all students will return to campus for in person learning.  The Department of Education will not provide a Full Distance Learning program for students.  We look forward to welcoming Grades 1-5 students back to school on Tuesday, August 3.  However, incoming Kindergarten students have a special schedule comprised of assessment and orientation sessions developed by their Kindergarten teachers.
Liholiho was fortunate to end the last school year with no Covid-19 cases!  The mitigation strategies (distance, masks and frequent hand washing), in and out of the classrooms made this possible.  We are awaiting further health and safety procedures from DOE, DOH and CDC regarding the opening of the school year.  Information will be provided to you when updated procedures are generated by the organizations.
The school is considering the continuation of the Drop Off/Pick Up sites of 9th Ave. for Grades 3-5 students and 8th Ave. for Grades K-2 students.  It appeared this alleviated the traffic issue on 8th Ave. The field will be open the first week of school.  A reminder that Kama'aina Kids holds a before school program for $30 a month.  Only those enrolled may come to school early at 7:00 a.m.
The Summer Hub program for identified students will be ending July 2.  The school will hold an additional program for identified incoming Kindergarten students, who did not attend preschool or had limited access to a preschool program.  The program will begin on Monday, July 12 and end on Friday, July 23.
Joining our Liholiho staff will be teachers Celine Kapu (Gr. 3) and Kayde Nakamura (Gr. 4) , both from Kuhio Elementary School and Megan Stern (Gr. 4) from Waikiki Elementary School.  They will enrich our staff with their experience and talents!
Have a wonderful Fourth of July weekend!  Keep healthy and safe!
     Mrs. Christina Small, Principal
